Hoof do you trim your horses feet yourself? If so I would be interested in this whole barefoot thing. Where are located?

Bluedog, there are quite a few barefoot trimmers in the lower mainland. Go to zenequine.com and look under hoofcare specialists. All these people would be able to help you out or put you in touch with someone that knows how to do the natural trim. I learned it myself too, and am still learning, but it's doable and such a rewarding experience! ok, except for the cut up wrists, lol. just kidding!

I do trim myself, bluedog. I have learned mainly from the barefoothorse.com site. My mum has been an incredible guide for me as she learned to trim from a fabulous trimmer in her youth. I also have Jaime Jackson's "That Natural Horse" and "The Horse Owner's Guide" books, which have been of great help. I got sick and tired of my old farrier screwing up my horses' feet. And with 3 horses, it makes life cheaper. Its really hard to find good trimmers and farriers in my area that are responisble, decent people who aren't out to blind-side their clients.
http://www.tribeequus.com also has practitioners listed. Heh, pity you aren't closer to me yourself! I am hosting a Barefoot Trimming Clinic in 2 weeks. One day, I will have enough money and I will come on a whirlwind visit to see my TMS friends in BC!

Yaz: I use Lynn too, she does several horses where I board and they all have the best feet in the barn! I too am not sure if she's taking new clients but it's worth a try bluedog! She still comes out here but is charging a little bit more for the distance she has to travel.

I have an appointment with Lynn and Melinda for next week. So excited. I was looking at my mare's feet last night and with all the stuff I've seen lately her feet aren't that bad, outside of being dry. Yah she has broken off some of her wall on the side but that is natural, correct. It's not affecting the front of her hoof at all and she has really good angle. All in all I was worrying for nothing. Although I'm going to look into some old mac's boots for trail rides. Thank You guys so much for enlightening me, my hubby always said "we can do that".
