Default Dwarf Friesian: the Story of Tifrons

I was just surfing around and I read somewhere that there is evidence of dwarfism among Friesians. I found a site and a story about a filly called Tifrons. I thought I would share the link as it was very touching.

There is also a youTube video of Tifron:

Just to clarify ...I believe that Tifrons was not a case of dwarfism (I don't think it was offered here as such?), but one of premature birth and other health issues. Touching story .

They did mention that the horse was a dwarf but from the article that was questionable. The foal had some of the appropriate characteristics but not all. I know that Friesians are a breed which does occasionally throw dwarfism due to the intense inbreeding which was necessary to save the breed. If you compare Tifrons to a confirmed miniature horse dwarf, she was not very similar.

EDIT: Oops, I stand corrected, this Friesian filly does fall into the diastrophic dwarf category.

I just found a pic of a dwarf mini which is over 50 years old, the average lifespan is only 5-6 years, though.

Thank you for checking out the story of Tifrons' short life. I am glad that her memory still touches. Though it was never genetically confirmed that she was a dwarf, since I have posted this story, I have recieved stories and pictures of others. Tifrons had all the same characteristics. I have been recently contacted by a person in the Netherlands who is working on a study to try and identify the gene so that testing can be provided to help avoid this disability in friesians. Tifrons will be apart of her study.
I have often wondered why Tifrons came to me and left so suddenly. Maybe the purpose was to tell her story and urge others to come forward so that the challenged could be addressed.

Oh my goodness - thanks for sharing that Elite Few - that story touched my heart and then made me cry. How brave, admirable, and sad.

Tifrons was an angel that God called back
