Okay, my trainer said she wants to use a bosal on my colt and I'm wondering (sorry to be clueless), what is the difference between a bosal and a bit and a hackamore? What does the bosal do in contrast to the bit? How is it set up? Thanks everyone!

A true Bosal works off of pressure on the horses nose and chin, it is ridden w/ the mecate reins (I prefer the climbing cord over the horse hair) A mechanical hackamore has a shank attached to the noseband and is ridden w/ a curb chain. This gives more leverage (and thus makes it a more severe piece of equipment) than does a bosal.
Neither apparatus has anything in the horse's mouth.
