I have a Pervian Paso mare that I love to ride a lot. She naturally does her paso corto gait on the longe line, but I'm just wondering if anyone could give me some tips on how to teach her to do her paso corto to a leg cue in the saddle!! I am currently riding her english and she is trained in western pleasure as well. So yeah. If anyone has some tips, it would be helpful.

Frija on here also owns a Peruvian Paso, she has shown and trained a fair bit in the past, hopefully she will see your post and be able to offer you some suggestions.

Hi, as Kym said, I have owned and trained Peruvian horses for 14 years now. So I do think I know a bit about them.

First the middle gait for the Peruvian horses is the Paso llanno not the corto. The corto is the middle gait for the Paso Fino.

If you contact me and ask specific questions, I can help you, no problem!

Enjoy your horse!

Amie

Thanks for correcting me!! I have heard so many different terms for the Paso llano that I wasn't quite sure!! This is my first horse and so far it has been a great experience. Every once in a while when I am riding Farah, She bucks. I have checked her saddle and she was just recently looked over by the vet. She is overweight and I am trying to get her into condition. Do you have any tips?

Well my first thought for you is saddle fit. If you are using a Peruvian saddle they are often too narrow for our 'north american' Peruvians.

Where are you located? If you are close to the Aldergrove area? I would love to have you come over and I can talk to you. I don't drive right now so I can't see you with your horse. I am NOT asking for money, I just love to help out and share my experiance.

I Don't ride Farah with a Peruvian saddle, and I have inspected her english saddle and western saddle too with an experienced friend. She hasn't bucked recently. She is out of shape and so I'm trying to get her back into shape. I work her four out of seven days a week and I have limited use to the pen that we have. Now that the grass has been cut in our field, I can ride her out there.

Hi Lyssa I have a Peruvian as well and am new to the breed.
There is a lady in the Duncan area of Vancouver Island who has had Peruvians forever. She is hosting Peruvian Gait clinic with one of the formost Peruvian judges in North America. This is for learning just the thing you are looking for . The clinic is in July and will be very inexpensive(don't know how much yet). If you cannot bring Farah it would be really valuable to audit the clinic. Her email is aliceh@shaw.ca Is this the palamino that belonged to John Woodcock?
